A native of Tennessee, Scott Kimmerly joined Peachtree Orthopedics in 2009. He is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons with subspecialty certification in the field of orthopedic sports medicine.

Education and Training

Scott Kimmerly comes to Peachtree Orthopedics after two years as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Emory University. While there, he served as associate director of the orthopedic surgery residency program as well as chief of sports medicine at Grady Hospital. Before that, he was on staff at the Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado. His clinical interests include arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, as well as general orthopedics and trauma.

A native of Tennessee, Dr. Kimmerly received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee. From there he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University. While there, he assisted with the sports medicine coverage of both Georgia Tech and Emory University. After Emory, he completed a one year fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado. While in Vail, he assisted in the medical care of elite athletes at the professional and Olympic levels, as well as with the care of the Denver Broncos professional football team. Following this, he embarked on a traveling fellowship in sports-related foot and ankle injuries, visiting leaders in the field across the country. He returned to Steadman-Hawkins afterwards and was a member of the orthopedic staff until his return to Atlanta.

Dr. Kimmerly has authored numerous orthopedic publications, presentations, and video demonstrations. He has served as course director for several orthopedic, educational conferences.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in the care of athletes, including at the professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational levels. He is currently an official medical provider for both the United States ski and snowboard teams and has traveled to South America with the women’s alpine team, serving as the team physician during summer training camp. He also serves as team physician for Walton High School, and as medical director for the Wildcat Cup. Dr. Kimmerly has also served as medical director and event physician for multiple large athletic competitions including the Countrywide American Ski Classic in Vail, the Chevrolet US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Breckenridge, the Visa "Birds of Prey" in Beaver Creek, and the Atlanta Steeplechase.

Dr. Kimmerly will see patients age 10 and older and fractures in children age 6 and older.

Dr. Kimmerly serves as an official provider for the US Ski Team and has traveled with them to Europe and South America.
