Education and Training

Dr. Griffin earned her B.S., M.SC., Ph.D., and M.D. (all with summa cum laude honors), from The Ohio State University. Prior to coming to the Atlanta area, she was an assistant team physician for the University of Washington Huskies and prior to that the University of Michigan Wolverines. Currently, she is a member of the athletic board of Georgia State University and is on the board of Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, but has also served on boards of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Orthopaedic Research and Educational Foundation (OREF), and the board of certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association. She has been the chairman of the publications committee for both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and has participated in a variety of other committee assignments for these organizations including recently being a member of the communications cabinet of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

She has written numerous articles on sports medicine issues and injuries and has a special interest in ACL injuries, patellofemoral issues and cartilage restoring techniques. She has edited numerous books including several on ACL injuries, in addition to the Essentials of Musculoskeletal Care and Athletic Training and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Griffin served as a venue chairman for the 1996 Olympics and was on the medical organizing committees for the 1996 Olympic Games. She has cared for athletes in a wide variety of sports including volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, skiing, wrestling, skateboarding, snowboarding, gymnastics, swimming, fencing, and dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, Irish, folk, and ballroom dancing.
