BIO

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Dr. Schiff earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983 and his M.D. from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 1988. He completed an internal medicine internship at Staten Island Hospital in 1989. Following his internship, he completed his residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at NYU Medical Center in 1992. While at NYU, he served as chief resident at the famed Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine.

Prior to joining Peachtree Orthopedics, he was an assistant professor of rehabilitation, the director of PM&R residency training, and the director of the musculoskeletal clinic at the Emory University School of Medicine. While at Emory, Dr. Schiff was awarded the “Robert L. Bennett Award for Excellence in Teaching.”

PATIENT POPULATION

Dr. Schiff has considerable interest and expertise in providing non-surgical musculoskeletal care, especially in the spine. He has a wealth of experience treating occupational/work-related injuries, as well as sports injuries. He performs a careful history and physical examination and will obtain appropriate diagnostic tests such as x-rays, MRI, and CT scans. When needed, he will perform muscle and nerve studies called EMG/NCV (electromyography). He takes a conservative approach to treatment, with a strong emphasis on specific exercise programs for specific problems. Dr. Schiff will see patients ages 16 and older. He does have training in manual medicine (adjustments) and will apply this to treatment when indicated. Other treatment modalities that he employs include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Manual therapy
  • Pharmacologic therapy (medications)
  • Trigger point injections
  • Botox injections
  • Epidural steroid injections
  • Selective nerve root injections
  • Facet joint and sacro-iliac joint injections
  • Tendon sheath, bursa and joint injections
